The Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2018 gold medalist Anish Bhanwala won the bronze medal in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol at the ISSF World Cup 2023 for Rifle/ Pistol events in Cairo, Egypt. With a score of 21 in the medal match, Anish finished ahead of the two-time Olympic medalist, Christian Reitz, to place third in the event. The 20-year-old hit the perfect score (5) in the first and fourth series but failed to capitalize on his progress. With this, India concluded their World Cup campaign with seven medals, including four gold and three bronze medals.

Although Anish came in seventh in the qualifying round, Fabian Otto of Germany was competing for ranking points. The other Indians Arpit Goel, Adarsh Singh, Bhavesh Shekhawat, and Ankur Goel came in 22nd, 26th, 27th, and 28th respectively. In the ranking match two, Anish faced a stiff challenge from France’s Yan Chesnel. Both were eventually tied at the end of four series during the ranking phase and went into shoot-off. During the shoot-off, Anish was the better shooter among the two and eventually made it to the medal match.
In the women’s 50m rifle three positions, the other event on the concluding day of the Cairo leg of the World Cup, none of the Indians qualified for the ranking round. Former world no.1 and experienced rifle shooter Anjum Moudgil ended in 27th position with a total of 583 in the qualifications. While the other Indians Sift Kaur Samra, Manini Kaushik, Ashi Chouksey, and Shriyanka Sadangi finished 16th, 22nd, 45th, and 46th respectively. Ashi and Shriyanka competed for the ranking points.
