World Archery has revoked its recognition of the Mexican Archery Federation as a result of the decision of judicial action against its former President Efi Sanchez, who has been imprisoned for misusing public money. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued an official notification to Mexico’s Sports Minister Ana Guevara and the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE). It is now necessary to create a new organization that completely complies with the norms of good governance because the National Federation will no longer be able to receive any financing from CONADE.

World Archery has recommended the formation of two committees to oversee the sport in Mexico. An operations committee comprised of former athletes, current technical staff, and a CONADE delegate will supervise the national team’s funding, selection processes, and entry into international events. However, Mexican athletes will still be eligible to compete in significant sporting events, such as the upcoming Olympic qualification competitions which are set to commence next year onwards.

A transition group consisting of representatives from CONADE, World Archery, World Archery Americas, the Mexican Olympic Committee, and the country’s national squad is scheduled to build a new National Federation for archery in Mexico. It is scheduled to establish the organization’s constitution and initial strategic plan, as well as convene its first General Assembly, during which elections will be held. If World Archery considers it desirable, it will ratify the make-up of both committees in accordance with the CONADE’s suggestions.

Over the past ten years, Mexico has had success competing in the sport of archery worldwide. Since London 2012, the country has won three Olympic medals. The nation also dominated the medals table at the most recent Pan American Archery Championships in Chile, winning six crowns out of ten medals.  Mexico also hosted the final of the 2022 Archery World Cup in Tlaxcala in the month of October.
