The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has announced the upcoming season’s selection trials, which, along with the results of the most recent national championship, will serve as the foundation for selection to the Indian national squad for international tournaments. The national federation has separated the elite shooters in group-A and announced separate trials in a new structure. Group A will exclusively include Olympic event shooters. According to the NRAI, shooters must choose their category at the beginning of the year – youth, junior, men, or women and must remain in that division throughout the year. Any shooter from group B may be taken into consideration for national selection by the selection committee.

The year 2022 was a memorable year for the Indian shooters and its fans. In the ISSF World Cup 2022 which took place from February 26 to to March 8, 2022, in Cairo, Egypt, India dominated the competition winning a total of 7 medals, including four gold, two silver, and a bronze to top the overall medal standings. Indian junior shooters came to party at the ISSF Junior World Cup held in Suhl, Germany by winning a whopping 36 medals that included 14 gold, 16 silver, and 6 bronze medals. They were dominant to such an extent that the second-placed team on the medal standings, Italy, could collect just 11 medals (four were gold). The country ended their successful campaign at the ISSF World Championship 2022 held in Cairo by finishing second behind China (58) in the medal standings. India (34) clinched 12 gold, 9 silver, and 13 bronze medals in the tournament. Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil (men’s 10m air rifle) and Swapnil Kusale (50m rifle 3 positions) secured the quota places for Paris 2024.
