Chess Olympiad 2022: Schedule, Fixture and Live streaming Details

The 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad, which will have a record number of nations (187) participating, is set to get underway in Mahabalipuram, Chennai, India from July 28.

The 44th Chess Olympiad is set to get underway in Mahabalipuram, Chennai, India from July 28. This is the first time ever that India will be hosting the prestigious event. A record number of nations are going to participate in the tournament . With a record 187 nations taking part with 188 teams in Open section and 162 in the women’s section, the Olympiad will witness highest ever participation. The tournament organised by FIDE will have its opening ceremony at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on July 28 at 7pm IST. The main event will be held at the Four Points by Sheraton Mahabalipuram Resort and Convention Centre, which is located on the East Coast Road in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The first round matches will begin on July 29 and the tournament will end on August 10. 

The Indian contingent will consist of 30 players across six teams (three in open and three in women). Each team will have five members out of which four will be fielded in each round. The captain of the team, in most cases non-playing, will decide the team composition. In the absence of Russia and China, India Team 1 is seeded second while the ISA tops the ranking list. India have won three medals at the Chess Olympiad so far: a bronze in the open section at Tromso 2014, a gold in 2020 (joint with Russia) and a women’s team bronze in 2021. The last two editions were held virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Team 3: Eesha Karavade, Sahithi Varshini, Pratyusha Bodda, Nandhidhaa PV, Vishwa Vasnawala – seeded 16th
