Tonight, the Columbus Blue Jackets will play their last preseason game against the Washington Capitals in the nation’s capital. With Kirill Marchenko and Carson Meyer gone, there are just two roster places left up for grabs, and those players are Kent Johnson, Liam Foudy, Eric Robinson, and Emil Bemstrom. The Jackets have largely reduced their roster to what fans can expect to see on opening night. Before the final selections are made, this is their last chance to leave a lasting impression.
On Wednesday night, TJ Oshie departed the Capitals preseason game early due to an injury. Connor Brown and Dylan Strome have replaced Nicklas Backstrom at the first and second line centers on the roster, respectively. Ilya Samsonov and Vitek Vanacek were replaced in Washington’s goaltender lineup this offseason by Stanley Cup champion Darcy Kuemper, who has Charlie Lindgren as his backup.
