The Tampa Bay Lightning will welcome the Montreal Canadiens to Amalie Arena for an NHL game on Saturday. The Lightning lost 7-4 against the Red Wings in their last game. Tampa Bay goalie Brian Elliott retrieved a loose puck behind his net and attempted to rim it around the boards. Detroit center Joe Veleno intercepted the puck and quickly fed Soderblom for the tap-in into the vacated net 3:48 into the third.
“They were obviously hungry after losing six straight, I think, but it was more than that,” Lightning forward Pierre-Edouard Bellemare said. “We started inviting them into the game a little and you can’t do that in this league.”
The Canadiens on the other hand lost 4-2 against the Stars in their last game. Fourth-line forwards Jake Evans and Michael Pezzetta scored for the Canadiens, who have lost five of six (1-4-1). Allen stopped 32 shots. Montreal has played the first three of seven consecutive road games.
Was that a result of Dallas’ attack or Montreal’s penalty killers struggling? “A little bit of both,” Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis said. Evans deked Oettinger and scored just before sliding into the crease 4:04 into the game to give the NHL’s worst power play a goal with two seconds left on the man advantage. Evans hadn’t scored since last April.
