The St. Louis Blues will take on Chicago Blackhawks at Enterprise Center (St. Louis) in the NHL Preseason game on October 8. Many young Minnesota Wild players are hoping for chances to win their position in the team’s starting lineup as the regular season draws near, but they only have a few chances to do so. The first one is tonight’s matchup with the Chicago Blackhawks. The Wild will try to rebound at home in the hopes of gaining some momentum going into the regular season after suffering their first loss of the year to their archrivals and the reason they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs last year, the St. Louis Blues. Regardless of the team’s goals, several of the Wild’s bubble players are facing a do-or-die situation.

With head coach Dean Evason providing hints during training camp and using line combinations consistently during the preseason, the final lineup has been essentially decided. However, a select group of athletes have persisted and have so far avoided being removed from the roster. Three forwards who will be competing for the 13th forward place on a full-time basis and have the chance to be available in the event of an injury are Nic Petan, Mason Shaw, and Steven Fogarty. On the blue line, Dakota Mermis and Andrej Sustr are still present and competing for the seventh defenseman place on the roster, but we anticipate that will only be the case until Jon Merrill returns from injury. All of them will get the opportunity to do it one last time tonight. This last preseason game will be the only chance for these players to play with the lineup they used to start the season, as Evason said earlier this week.
