The game between the San Jose Sharks and Calgary Flames will take place at the SAP Center in San Jose, on Sunday, December 18 at 10:05 PM ET.
The Sharks’ small winning streak was broken in their most recent contest, and they will now play the struggling Flames in a Pacific Division showdown. The Flames went on a three-game winning streak before losing five straight. The team has a record of 4-3-3 in their previous ten games and is now sitting in fifth place in the Pacific Division, 13 points behind the leader. Prior to their recent game’s shootout defeat, the Sharks had won two straight games. They have a record of 3-4-3 in their last ten games and are currently in the Pacific Division’s bottom half, just five points above last place.
The Flames lost to the St. Louis Blues 5-2 in their most recent home game despite only being behind 2-1 after two periods before being outscored 3-1 in the third. In the defeat, Connor Mackey scored his first two goals of the campaign, and Dillon Dube and Elias Lindholm each provided an assist on one of those goals. Jacob Markstrom (8-8-4 2.92 GAA) had a poor game, putting up five goals on just 24 shots. In his last two appearances, he has also allowed eight goals. Dan Vladar, a backup who hasn’t started since December 10th and who might play in this contest, gave up five goals on 34 shots in his previous outing.
The Sharks were on the road and appeared to be headed for their third straight victory in their most recent game against the L.A. Kings, but they were unable to pull off the victory after conceding the game-tying goal with just 3:44 left in regulation. Timo Meier scored and assisted in the defeat, and Kevin Labanc also found the back of the net.
