The match in WHL pre-season is Regina Pats vs Winnipeg Ice. In front of a full house at Affinity Place on Tuesday, Regina defeated the Swift Current Broncos 4-2; this was a huge triumph for the neurological site. Connor Bedard scored twice, Corban Almen once, and Borya Valis once as the Pats overturned a 2-0 hole in the game by scoring four consecutive goals in the second and third periods. The final shot totals were 39-33 in favor of the Pats and 16-6 in favor of The Regiment in the third quarter.

Bedard is tied for the most goals among WHL preseason skaters with four after two games. The Pats have benefited from strong efforts in goal from Koen MacInnes and Drew Sim. Sim has saved 30 of 30 shots through 30 minutes of play, while 20-year-old MacInnes has allowed only three goals on 42 shots over 70 minutes of ice time after being acquired from the Everett Silvertips in the summer for two late selections. The Patriots have outscored their opponents 9 to 7 to go to 2-1 in the preseason.

Winnipeg Ice coming off a spectacular season

The ICE is coming off a fantastic 2021–22 season in which they finished first in the whole WHL with a record of 53–10–3-2 and 111 points before falling to the Edmonton Oil Kings in the Eastern Conference Finals. The 111 points and 53 victories were franchise highs. After going ninth and eleventh overall in the 2022 NHL Draft, respectively, Matthew Savoie (BUF) and Conor Geekie (ARZ) are now enrolled in NHL training camps. However, Zach Benson, who is entering his draught year after posting 63 points (25G-38A) in 58 games with Winnipeg last season, is still available for preseason play tonight.

Barring any injuries or players joining their respective NHL clubs, such as Savoie, Geekie, and Carson Lambos, who were selected by the Minnesota Wild in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft, the ICE is primed for another excellent season. On their current preseason roster, they have one returning goalkeeper, six returning defensemen, and nine returning forwards from last year. The ICE currently has a 1-1 preseason record after losing 6-1 on the road to Brandon and winning 3-1 at home against the Wheat Kings. Their last two preseason games will be against the Patriots in these two games.
