With both clubs trying to improve after shaky beginnings to the season, the San Jose Sharks take on the Ottawa Senators. The Sharks are at the bottom of the Pacific Division with an 8-14-4 record. The Senators are in last place in the Atlantic Division with a 9-13-1 record. The upcoming game will be crucial for both clubs as they both hope to move up from the bottom of their divisions and compete for a playoff spot.

With their attack failing and averaging only 2.92 goals per game, the Sharks are having a difficult season. And Erik Karlsson is contributing 11 goals and 21 assists from the point while Timo Meier and Logan Couture have combined for 37 goals and 32 assists, the rest of the offense has struggled. Only six skaters have added nine assists or more, and only four skaters have seven goals or more, making it possible for opposing defenses to shut down the top-heavy offense.

Despite the fact that their offense has improved and is averaging 3.05 goals per game, the Senators are having a difficult season. Brady Tkachuk and Tim Stützle, who play on the top line, have led the offense with 20 goals and 31 assists, but the rest of the offense has also performed admirably. While defenseman Jake Sanderson is adding a goal and 10 assists from the point to help open up the offense, Claude Giroux, Alex DeBrincat, and Drake Batherson have combined for 20 goals and 35 assists.
