Florida Panthers

The Florida Panthers will welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs to FLA Live Arena for an NHL game on Thursday. The Florida Panthers lost 6-3 in their last game over the Flyers. Brandon Montour had a goal and an assist, and Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Reinhart also scored for Florida. The Panthers had won three in a row and six of seven before falling to the lowly Flyers.

Hart was stellar throughout the game. He kept it tied at 1 by denying Reinhart on the power play with 5 1/2 minutes left in the first and used his glove to snare Radko Gudas’ hard slap shot with just over 14 minutes to play in the second. Florida outshot the Flyers 44-24 but remained only one point ahead of idle Pittsburgh for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.

“They were playing quicker than us,” Reinhart said. “It’s tough. You’re going to go through moments like that. We move on and get ready for the next one.” Sanheim netted his second of the game 1:11 after Laughton’s goal. Lyon lost his stick and Sanheim scored from close range as the Florida goalie was trying to recover it. Provorov made it 5-2 with 1:05 left before intermission by beating Lyon with a backhand from close range. “Obviously (that) is the difference,” Tortorella said.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs on the other hand lost 7-2 against the Islanders in their last game. Sam Lafferty and Mitchell Marner scored for Toronto, which had won two straight. Ilya Samsonov had 22 saves. “We weren’t getting enough pucks directly to the net, trying to make too many plays,” Marner said. “They won a lot more battles. When they got the pucks, they were getting them toward the net and getting bodies there. … When they had their clean looks, they didn’t miss.”

“We are a resilient group,” Dobson said. “Even when we go down one early, we know and trust our game. They got some high-end players, if you give them time and space, especially coming through the neutral zone, they can take advantage. I thought we did a good job defensively as a group of five staying above guys. Obviously, when we got our chances we did a great job capitalizing.”
