The game between the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders will take place at PNC Arena on Monday, April 17 at 7:00 PM ET.
The Carolina Hurricanes will welcome the New York Islanders to PNC Arena for an NHL game on Monday. The Columbus Blue Jackets won 4-6 in their last game over the Panthers. Brent Burns scored twice and the Carolina Hurricanes scored four times in the third period to beat the Florida Panthers 6-4 on Thursday night to win the Metropolitan Division. Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Jesper Fast, Shayne Gostisbehere and Sebastian Aho also scored for the Hurricanes, who began the night one point ahead of New Jersey atop the division. Frederick Andersen finished with 31 saves. Carolina will open the first-round of the Stanley Cup playoffs against the New York Islanders.
“I loved how the guys went about their business. The end was a little weird, but it was one hell of an effort,” said Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour, whose team has won its division the past three seasons. “The guys in that room are as honest as they come and that’s how we have to get it done. We just come to play. I am proud of them. In the division we’re in, it says a lot but it is not what we came to do. We have bigger things we want to accomplish.”
The New York Islanders on the other hand won 4-2 against the Canadiens in their last game. Brock Nelson scored twice as the New York Islanders beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 Wednesday night and clinched a playoff berth. The Islanders are awaiting the outcome of the Florida Panthers-Carolina Hurricanes game on Thursday to determine their first-round playoff opponent. New York missed the postseason last year, and that led to the firing of head coach Barry Trotz in May.
“We’ve played a lot of hockey, but now it gets fun,” Zach Parise said. “You zero in on a team. You focus on their strengths and weaknesses and it really turns into a chess match. Once we find out our opponent, it will be a lot of video and a lot of learning.” The Islanders’ victory also eliminated Pittsburgh from the postseason race, ending the Penguins’ run of playoff appearances at 16 years, which was the longest active playoff streak in major North American professional sports. Hudson Fasching and Anders Lee also scored for New York, and Ilya Sorokin made 16 saves as the Islanders closed out their regular season. Noah Dobson added two assists.
