Nashville Predators will host Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL pre-season matchup. Bridgestone Arena’s exhibition hockey did not disappoint. In a preseason game that was initially supposed to take place in Tampa but was moved to Nashville because of Hurricane Ian, the Nashville Predators defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-0 on Thursday. Nino Niederreiter and John Leonard, two offseason additions to the Predators, each scored one goal, while Kevin Lankinen made 30 stops in goal to secure the victory. In nearly 30 minutes of action against the Florida Panthers on Monday, Lankinen, who played his first complete game with the Predators on Thursday, also turned aside all 13 shots he faced.

The synergy between Niederreiter and Ryan Johansen throughout the preseason has been hard to ignore, despite the fact that line combinations have not yet been decided. Since getting back together in Nashville more than ten years later, the old comrades on the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks have not missed a beat. On Monday against Florida, Johansen successfully deflected a shot from Niederreiter into the goal, but on Thursday, Niederreiter scored off an assist from Johansen to make it 1-0 in the first frame.

Cody Glass caused mayhem on the ice with the puck and without it on Thursday even though he didn’t record a point. Glass described this training camp as “make or break” as he attempts to carry his success with the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL to the NHL after scoring on the power play against Florida on Monday. Glass is taking each day of training camp as it comes, even though he is continuing to make a compelling case for a spot on the Predators’ opening night roster.
