Matt Boldy Signs $49 Million Contract With Minnesota Wild

The Minnesota Wild has signed Matt Boldy to a seven-year contract extension worth $49 million, the NHL franchise announced Monday morning. Boldy’s new contract averages him $7 million a year and runs through the 2029-30 season. The 21-year-old forward was drafted 12th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft. He scored 15 goals and provided 24 assists in 47 games last season. Boldi has a total of 12 goals and 17 of his assists in 42 appearances this season.

Boldy and the Wild beat the Arizona Coyotes 2-1 at the Excel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday. The Wild (24-14-4) sits third in the Western Conference Central Division. They meet in Washington Capital at 7 pm. EST Tuesday at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The 2022-23 NHL regular season ends his April 13th.

Boldy made his NHL debut on January 6, 2022, just over a year before him. He immediately made an impression by scoring Minnesota’s winning goal in his 3–2 win over the Boston Bruins. He finished his first NHL campaign 15-24-39 in 47 games. 83 points per game, beating out all rookies who played 10 or more games. But with just half a season of games on his resume, he finished eighth in the 2022 Calder Trophy voting for Rookie of the Year.
