Defending Stanley Cup champions Tampa Bay Lightning are going through a very tough time as they are down 2-0 to the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL Stanley Cup Finals. The Avalanche shocked the whole world when they beat the Lightning 7-0 in Game 2 and in the process sent their fans into a tizzy. Tampa Bay now take on Colorado on their home turf tonight and if any team can come back from such a situation, it is the Lightning given that they were in the exact same position in the Conference Finals against the New York Rangers and ultimately came out triumphant.

PK Subban was on ESPN’s First Take when he was asked if the Tampa Bay Lightning can still win the cup. He said, “I think that this series so far for the Tampa Bay Lightning has been a start that they want to forget. They are going to park that immediately. Game 3 pivotal game, going back home. They were in this situation against the Rangers and they found a way to get it done. Not only get it done in game 3, they got it done in the next three games after that winning four straight. So, Tampa Bay has got championship pedigree. This is a team that knows how to win.

“This is the biggest game of the year for them. They have to, have to forecheck going. If they don’t get their forecheck going, colorado is going to break out of their zone. They are going to looking at four, five guys all night coming up on the attack and colorado has been on all-out attack, all year, all season long. It’s a fast team and for the first time in a long time, Tampa Bay look slow. They got to get going. Tonight needs to be their fastest game of the playoffs.”

Tampa Bay Lightning are still defending champions

Veteran analyst Stephen A. Smith interjected and said how can the Tampa Bay Lightning be taken seriously given that they lost the last game 7-0 to which Subban said, “They are still Stanley Cup Champions, right? I think this series hasn’t started until the home team loses. Until the home team loses a game, and that’s the way this playoffs has been, right? So Tampa Bay are still very much in this series.

“How do they lose 7-0? I think that in the game, once Colorado got up 3, 4 nothing, it is very difficult in hockey to score five goals. Especially against a team that has only lost two games this postseason. So, I think with Tampa Bay, you know the energy drops a little bit, the compete level drops a little bit. They know that they have to take care of business at home. They did not take care of business on the road. That’s ok. They got two opportunities to take care of business. They got to take care of business tonight. It starts tonight. It’s a pivotal game”, Subban concluded.
