The Edmonton Oilers will welcome the Calgary Flames to Rogers Place for an NHL game on Saturday. Edmonton made a winning start to their season as they defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5-3 in their opening game. Connor McDavid was the hero as he scored a hattrick with Leon Draisaitl and Darnell Nurse adding a goal each as the Oilers won the game comfortably.

Hattrick hero Connnor McDavid spoke after the game and said, “It was just not a good start for our group. It was the first game and maybe there was a little bit of jitters. It is not going to be perfect every night. You are not going to have the game you want every night and sometimes you get a win with your ‘B’ or ‘C’ game. It was certainly not our ‘A’ game to start, but we found a way to get our legs going and get ourselves back in it.”

The Calgary Flames on the other hand defeated defending champions, Colorado Avalanche 5-3 in their last game. Goals from Rasmus Andersson, Dillion Dube, Elias Lindholm, Brett Ritchie and Tyler Toffoli made sure that the Flames had enough to get over the line. The result also marked the 700th victory for Calgary head coach Darryl Sutter.

Nazeem Kadri who won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche last season received his championship ring after the game. After the game, he said, “A win and getting this, that’s the cherry on top, that’s for sure. It was a bit of a whirlwind of a day. You just try to compose yourself as best as possible. A lot of things are running through your head. Happy we were able to play a half-decent game and get a win against a great team and this just makes it even better.”
