The Vegas Golden Knights (17-7-1), who started 1-1-0 on their current four-game road trip after a 4-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena on Thursday, ended up suffering their third loss in their previous four games (1-3-0). Before the hosts scored two unanswered snipes in a space of just under two minutes midway through the final session, the Knights led 2-0 in the first period and 3-2 in the third. For Vegas, which suffered its first regulation loss in its previous 10 road games, goals were scored by Jack Eichel (12 goals, 28 points this season), Reilly Smith (11 goals, 17 points), and Shea Theodore (4 goals, 18 points).
After suffering their second straight loss (0-1) during a 5-4 shootout loss to the Buffalo Sabres at Little Caesars Arena on Wednesday, the Detroit Red Wings (11-6-5) finished 2-1-1 on their current five-game homestand. Oskar Sundqvist (three goals, nine points this season) scored twice for Detroit, which overcame a 4-1 deficit in the third period by scoring three goals in less than six minutes. However, the Sabres were able to score the lone goal of the shootout in the third round after David Perron (7 goals, 17 points) and Dylan Larkin (9 goals, 25 points) both hit the post. The Red Wings have now lost four of their last six home games (2-2-2).
