The NHL matchup between the Detroit Red Wings and the Arizona Coyotes takes place at the Little Caesars Arena (Detroit) on Thursday night. The first meeting of the season between the two divisional rivals will take place when the Winnipeg Jets visit the Minnesota Wild. With an 11-5-1 record, Winnipeg enters the game tied for second place in the Central division with the Stanley Cup champions Colorado Avalanche. With their most recent victory coming against the Carolina Hurricanes in overtime, the Jets are 6-2-0 in November. As the first quarter of the season draws closer, Josh Morrisey, a defenseman with the Jets, is playing his way into Norris contention. With three goals and 15 assists after 17 games, Morrisey is averaging almost a point per game.
In comparison to expectations going into the season, the Minnesota Wild haven’t been playing as well. The Wild average 14 penalty minutes per game, which leads the league, but they rank 12th in the league in penalty killing. The Wild have also struggled to score early on, averaging just 2.67 goals per game to rank 28th. With ten goals and ten assists through 18 games, Russian star Kirill Kaprizov leads Minnesota. In their most recent contest, the Wild defeated the Carolina Hurricanes in overtime. With their victory in this match, Morrisey and the Jets maintain their lead over the Stars and Avalanche in the Central. In a matchup of two clubs on opposite ends of the NHL standings, the Carolina Hurricanes face the Arizona Coyotes. Last year, the Hurricanes defeated the Coyotes 7-4 in both of their games. After losing each of their last three games in OT, Carolina has a 10-5-4 record and a three-game losing skid.
