The Detroit Red Wings have proposed firing Jakub Vrana, TSN’s Chris Johnston reported Tuesday. The 26-year-old Vrana has made just two appearances this season and has one goal and one assist. On October 19, he joined his NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program. The program aims to provide treatment for players with mental health issues and substance abuse issues. Vrana was born on the 12th. After attending several practices in Detroit, he was assigned to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins as a conditioning coach. He failed to register a point and received a minus-5 rating in his three games against the Griffins last week.

The Czech Republic native of Prague scored 13 goals and his 19 points in 26 appearances last season after missing his 56 games with shoulder surgery. Vrana is entering the second year of his three-year, $15.75 million (AAV $5.25 million) contract signed with Detroit in August 2021. Vrana has struggled to keep himself fit during his time with the Red Wings, but he’s sure to be of interest to teams looking to add some offensive firepower to their roster. “Personally, I don’t want to share anything [about why I joined the program]. It’s my personal reason,” Vrana told reporters when he returned to the Red Wings last month. is bigger than hockey. They’re going to deal with hockey or whatever bigger thing. It’s important to make that decision before it’s too late. You have to make important decisions in life, but hockey is different.”
