The Tampa Bay Lightning live to fight another day as they beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 in Game 5 of the NHL Stanley Cup Final. Ondrej Palat scored the winning goal with 6:22 remaining and Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 35 shots in front of a fanatic crowd hoping to celebrate Colorado’s first cup win in 21 years. After the game, Lightning forward Corey Perry said, “That’s what good teams do, you find a way. Keep plugging along. This is fun. This is what hockey’s all about, different guys stepping up at different times.”

Cale Makar could not get Colorado Avalanche over the line

Nikita Kucherov and Jan Rutta also scored for Tampa Bay Lightning while Valeri Nichushkin and Cale Makar had goals for Colorado. Makar’s third-period tally bounced off the skate of Erik Cernak and through the pads of Vasilevskiy to tie it at 2. Colorado Avalanche defenseman Devon Toews said, “We have belief in our room that we can win every game we go out and play. We feel like we had a decent game tonight, pretty good game. Obviously, it wasn’t enough tonight.” Game 6 is on Sunday in Tampa. The Lightning trail the series 3-2.
