Colorado Avalanche vs Tampa Bay Lightning: Twitter erupts as Avalanche win Game 1 of Stanley Cup Final

Fans inside the Ball Arena were in on the action from the start as this was the first Stanley Cup Final game in the city since 2001 which was also the last year the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup.

The Colorado Avalanche defeated defending champions Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 in Game 1 of the NHL Stanley Cup Final at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado and in the process took a 1-0 lead. Andre Burakovsky scored 1:23 into overtime to give Colorado a 4-3 victory and put the Avs up in a series that has all the potential to be a classic. Burakovsky is one of only two Colorado players with Stanley Cup rings, and that experience was crucial. After the game, he said, “I’ve been there, and I kind of know the situation. I’ve been through it, and I kind of know what to expect and the pace and what’s at stake here.”

Fans were key

Fans inside the Ball Arena were in on the action from the start as this was the first Stanley Cup Final game in the city since 2001 which was also the last year the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup. The fans chanted, “We want the Cup”, throughout the leadup and at times during the game, which was a showcase of the high-scoring hockey that has been the standard all season.
