Quarterback Bryce Perkins had an excellent game as he not only passed for 133 yards and two touchdowns but rushed eight times for one touchdown.

Wide receiver Lance McCutcheon also had a great game as he caught the ball five times and scored two touchdowns at an average of 17.4. After the game, an elated McCutcheon said, “I just saw the ball in the air, and first I was just trying to come down with it. Went up in a contested catch, and was just able to move the ball away and get my arm in there.”

Smith praises Davis Mills, Dameon Pierce

On the other hand, the Texans come into this game on the back of a 17-13 win over the New Orleans Saint in their first preseason game last week. Quarterback Jeff Driskel put on a great showing as he passed for 165 yards and two touchdowns and had three interceptions. Wide receiver Jalen Camp and Johnny Johnson III had one touchdown each as Houston recorded a win.

Texans head coach Lovie Smith commented on Davis Mills and his decision to stick with the rookie as their starter. After the game, Smith said, “It’s a start,” coach Lovie Smith said. “We didn’t have a lot of production when our one offense was out there, but we got what we wanted accomplished with him. He’s healthy going into Game 2.” Smith also praised Dameon Pierce who had five catches and rushed for 49 yards. “Dameon has been impressive in practice and we expected him to come tonight and do some things that he did and just keep fighting,” Smith said.
