The Utah Jazz will welcome the Charlotte Hornets to the Vivint Arena for an NBA game on Monday. The Jazz lost 106-117 in their last game over the Nets. Claxton added 20 points and four blocks. Royce O’Neale chipped in 13 points and six assists in his first game back in Utah since being traded to Brooklyn before the season. Jordan Clarkson scored 29 points for Utah and Lauri Markkanen added 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Collin Sexton had 17 points and Malik Beasley chipped in 12. The Jazz struggled with transition defense down the stretch, giving up 19 fast-break points after halftime. “In the second half, we just weren’t very focused on getting back and protecting the basket,” Utah coach Will Hardy said. “We got a little bit wrapped up in trying to focus on the ball, and we let guys get behind us.”
Utah erased the double-digit deficit in the second quarter behind its own 14-0 run and took a 38-36 lead on a reverse layup from Sexton. The Jazz scored on seven straight possessions late in the quarter. Clarkson fueled the spurt with a pair of baskets and three free throws.
The Hornets on the other hand won 118-122 against the Hawks in their last game. Terry Rozier hit three throws with 1.1 seconds remaining, and the undermanned Charlotte Hornets overcame a 19-point, third-quarter deficit to end the Atlanta Hawks’ five-game winning streak with a 122-118 victory on Saturday night. Clint Capela tipped in Trae Young’s missed runner with 5.4 seconds to go for Atlanta, but Rozier, who scored 28 of his 34 points in the second half, drew a foul from Jalen Johnson and buried the ensuing free throws to win it.
“He definitely got me,” Rozier said. “The play was called for me to go to the basket, but I just read him. He was backed up a little bit, but he lunged forward and like high-fived me in the air.” The Hawks lost when Young, trying to inbound the ball from the right sideline, couldn’t find an open teammate with 7-foot Mason Plumlee making it tough to put the ball in play. His turnover ended it.
