The 2022-23 NBA season has recently kicked off. With just over a week into the season, fans are already talking about the most prestigious individual award in the league, the MVP. While the last two season’s MVP award have gone to Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, this year’s award might go to somebody else. With that said, let’s take a look at the top 5 MVP contenders for the 2022-23 NBA season.

The Philadelphia 76ers’ player was second in last season’s MVP voting after having a stellar regular season. While he failed to do anything considerable in the play-offs, Embiid certainly had a season to remember averaging 30.6 points per game. For that very reason, he is billed as one of the favorites to win the MVP award this season as he aims to have yet another impressive season.

4. Giannis Antetokounmpo

The list would’ve been incomplete without the former two time MVP. As long as Giannis Antetokounmpo is fit enough to play and the Bucks are performing well, he will be in contention to win the MVP award.

He has been quite impressive over the past few years in the NBA and is undoubtedly one of the best basketball players in the league. At just 27 years old, the Greek Freak will look to put in another stellar season making him one of the top contender’s for the MVP award.

3. Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry is a two time MVP award winner and he even won last year’s finals MVP as he led the Golden State Warriors’ to another NBA title. It’s hard to imagine a time where Curry hasn’t been impactful when he’s fully fit. The same can be expected from him this season as well. That said, with another incredible season on sight, Stephen Curry will look to make his case for the third MVP award of his career this season.

2. Nikola Jokic

As mentioned earlier, Nikola Jokic has been having quite an individual run in the NBA. Having won the last two MVP awards, Jokic is motivated to make it a three-peat. However, that will largely depend on how his team, the Denver Nuggets perform as well. While the season has just started, he will certainly be looking forward to lead the Denver Nuggets into the playoffs and make his case for a third straight MVP award.

1. Luka Doncic

Luka Doncic is just four years into his NBA career and it is safe to say that the 23 year old is making his mark already. He has been quite consistent with his performances and looks like it’s just about time before Doncic gets his first NBA MVP award.
