LeBron James and Stephen Curry the kids from Akron, Ohio. Two of the most influential players in NBA. James and Curry have a very different approach to the game, but their impact on the court is nothing like we’ve ever seen. One of them is the most dominant players in the NBA, while the other is the greatest shooter the world has ever seen. No matter how different their styles are, there is beauty in those differences as well says Cleveland Cavaliers center and former teammate of LeBron, Kevin Love who spoke about them both on the Ringer podcast ‘Icons Club’.

Curry and James have been the faces of the league for the better part of a decade. They also faced each other four times in the NBA Finals, from 2015 to 2018. Curry won three of these Finals with the Golden State Warriors, while James won one with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.

On the podcast, Kevin Love talked about the differences Curry and LeBron had.

“Arguably the greatest player ever, and the greatest shooter of all time going against each other in these epic matchups. The dynamic was, I thought, a pretty, pretty special one because people looked up to them. They both can put the ball in the hoop and do spectacular things within basketball. They both do it in such different ways.”

However, before the two legends became rivals on the court, there were a lot of questions surrounding Curry’s size and fitness during his first few years in the league. Meanwhile, James was a superstar when he was drafted first overall by the Cavaliers in 2003.

“While there are so many similarities, I think there’s beauty in the differences as well. And I think I saw that with both of those guys and how they operate and how they just draw respect from their teammates and make their teammates better.”

LeBron James and Stephen Curry have mutual respect

Curry was high on praise of the four-time NBA champion’s career longevity. In his 19 year career, LeBron James has won every laurel available in basketball. Curry pointed that out and said that it all took a lot of work to come by. Speaking of him in an interview before the game against the Lakers, Curry said,

“He set the standard for that. Let’s keep it real — what is he, in his 18th year? Nine straight Finals, all the things that he’s accomplished. You have a vision of sustaining your prime for as long as you can, kind of reimagining what that looks like. So you know the work that goes into it, the intentionality, especially in the offseasons, especially how you take care of your body, your mind. Balance on court, off court.”
