LeBron James is 89 points away from breaking Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul – Jabbar’s all-time scoring record of 38,387 points. His terrific form during the 2022-23 season has helped him reach the record sooner than expected. The LA Lakers have two more games on the road against the Indiana Pacers and New Orleans Pelicans. His previous performances have indicated that he could possibly get to the record in those games.

However, former NBA player Vince Carter is of the opinion that it only makes sense for the four-time NBA champion to break the all-time scoring record in LA. Having played against LeBron James for a long time, Carter is well-versed in how big of an impact he has had on the game. Speaking more on the same, he said on “The VC Show” that:

“I think it’s special, I think he wants his family, we know how important his family means to him and how they support each other being in the building. There again it’s easy to fly on the road and watch him break the record, but it’s nothing like doing it in LA. A current Laker player passing a Hall of Famer Laker player, that should happen in LA, period.”

LeBron James’ performances for the Purple and Gold have been age-defying. In January, the 38-year-old averaged 33.8 PPG, which is a true testament to his longevity. Although the LA Lakers have not been at their best, LeBron James has constantly put his head down and delivered game after game.

How important is it for LeBron James to break the all-time scoring record?

LeBron James has been one of the greatest players to ever grace a basketball court. In his 20-year career, he has time again proven that and him breaking the all-time scoring record is proof of that. He has constantly been compared to Michael Jordan in the GOAT conversation and reaching the record would help him get some recognition in that debate.

Looking at his current performances, it is clear that LeBron James has it in him to play for several more years. His body is in great shape and he still has the willingness to win. If he is able to play at the same level, he could easily end up scoring over 45,000 points. Whether someone reaches or not is something that only time will tell, but regardless of that, LeBron James breaking the record set by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will always be one of the greatest sporting moments.
