The Brooklyn Nets are in a bit of a soup with the situation surrounding Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. There are reports coming out that there has been an impasse in contract negotiations between Kyrie and the Nets and that he is looking at other options. The teams that Kyrie is looking at include names such as the Lakers, Clippers, Knicks, Heat, Mavericks and the 76ers. Now it is known to everyone that Kevin Durant came to the Nets because of Kyrie Irving and to see that now he is at a point where he is uncertain about staying with the team will no doubt be disheartening for KD.

Former NBA player, Richard Jefferson was on NBA Today when the topic of KD and Kyrie came up and he said a few things that are true. He alluded to the fact that the Nets put their faith in Durant when he signed a long-term deal but the same cant be said of Kyrie Irving. He said, “I think when you look at the Brooklyn Nets situation and I have been there a ton. When both players decide to go there and then when Kevin Durant signed that extension, everybody was like, ‘Oh ok. Kevin Durant. He is the first domino to fall.’”

Jefferson applauds Kevin Durant

Jefferson then spoke about how the James Harden saga affected everyone and shed light on how KD is more committed to the Nets than Kyrie. Speaking on the same segment, he said, “Obviously, there was James Harden and some other dominos obviously that needed to go. But you are looking at this and like once Kevin Durant signed everything else is kind of like you know. And I respected when Kevin Durant signed early, he was like ‘Hey, this is the franchise that I am going to be with. We are going to stop any other nonsense. I wanna be here.’

“And then obviously you know Kyrie. Then the James Harden situation started to happen. And so, you are still looking at Kevin Durant as you are that dude. This franchise hinges on every decision that you are going to make it. Hopefully, the Nets are having conversations with him saying hey these are our options. If he leaves what are you doing? Because KD can obviously impact his decision and say if he leaves, I will be leaving too and now it’s like for me if you are Kyrie, the fact that he is trying to stay out of it implies that he is more committed to the Nets than he is to Kyrie”, concluded Jefferson.
