Oklahoma City Thunder

The Oklahoma City Thunder will welcome the Detroit Pistons to Paycom Center for an NBA game on Wednesday. The Oklahoma City Thunder lost 134-137 in their last game over the Hornets. Three Thunder players scored career highs — Isaiah Joe with 33 points and Josh Giddey and Jalen Williams with 31 each. But Williams and Giddey each missed one of two free throws in the final 16 seconds, and Williams missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have forced overtime.

It was a potentially costly loss for Oklahoma City. The Thunder were looking to strengthen their position in the Western Conference play-in race despite being short-handed. Oklahoma City guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who entered the day fourth in the league averaging 31.3 points per game, sat out with a sprained left ankle. “We have to buckle down and understand what we are playing for and what the stakes are at this end of the season,” said Giddey, who also had 10 rebounds and nine assists.

G Lindy Waters (left foot plantar fasciitis) sat out. … Giddey scored 11 points in the first quarter. … F Aleksej Pokusevski returned after a leg injury, playing for the Thunder for the first time since Dec. 27. He went scoreless in 10 minutes.

Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons on the other hand lost 117-126 against the Bucks in their last game. The Pistons got a career-high 32 points, eight rebounds and eight assists from rookie Jaden Ivey, but lost their sixth straight game and 17th of 18. They are 1-13 against Central Division opponents.

“We know Jaden is going to be able to score the ball, but I’m happy with all the other things he’s doing,” Pistons coach Dwane Casey said. “He’s growing as a player, especially on the defensive end.” Detroit continued to use a roster that would fit in the Summer League, with Bojan Bogdanovic (achilles), Cade Cunningham (leg), Hamadou Diallo (ankle), Isaiah Stewart (shoulder) and Alec Burks (foot) all sidelined.

The Pistons were within 117-110 when Middleton missed a jumper with 2:09 to play. However, Lopez tipped in the rebound, and after Ivey missed a 3-pointer, Middleton’s three-point play made it a 12-point game.
