New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans will welcome the San Antonio Spurs to Smoothie King Center for an NBA game on Tuesday. The New Orleans Pelicans won 107-117 in their last game over the Rockets. Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum each scored 26 points and the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Houston Rockets 117-107 on Sunday night.

McCollum had 16 points on 6 of 9 shooting in the first half as the Pelicans built a 64-44 halftime lead. “I just got to be aggressive and pick my spots,” McCollum said. “Take advantage of what’s there. I’m going to have good shooting nights, and I’m going to have not so good shooting nights, so it’s just about being aggressive and making sure that I’m trying to put us in the best position to succeed.”

Jonas Valanciunas had 21 points and 11 rebounds, Trey Murphy III had 14 points and Herbert Jones scored 13 for the Pelicans, which shot 49%, including 13 of 31 on 3’s. New Orleans closed the gap to a half-game behind Utah for the final spot in the play in tournament with 11 games left. “We have to realize we got to play better,” Valanciunas said. “If we want to go to the postseason, we have to play better. Right now, it’s as simple as that. We have to win some games.”

San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs on the other hand won 126-118 against the Hawks in their last game. Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell had 29 points each and the San Antonio Spurs rallied from a 24-point deficit to beat the Atlanta Hawks 126-118 on Sunday, spoiling Dejounte Murray’s homecoming. Murray had 22 points, eight assists and six rebounds in his first game in San Antonio since being traded to Atlanta in the offseason.

“I’m not surprised. I’m not shocked,” Murray said. “(Devin) and Keldon put in a lot of work. Those are two young guys who really want to get better and be better. For me, trying to stay a competitor when we are playing and not more of a fan. But it’s still like a while to see them. And like they said, they are thankful for me showing them the way, always being there for them, whether I was there or where I am at today.”

The victory was the largest second-half comeback for San Antonio under Gregg Popovich and tied the second-largest comeback in his 27 seasons as head coach. “A tale of two cities this week,” Popovich said. “The competitiveness and physicality was great. I think they scored 35 (in the second half). When you play that competitive and physically, good things usually happen.”
