The Memphis Grizzlies will welcome the Houston Rockets to FedExForum for an NBA game on Wednesday. The Memphis Grizzlies won 112-108 in their last game over the Mavericks. Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 28 points, including a key layup with 17 seconds left as the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Dallas Mavericks 112-108 on Monday night in Ja Morant’s first game back with the team after an eight-game league suspension.
Santi Aldama added 22 points and 14 rebounds for Memphis, career-highs in both categories. Desmond Bane finished with 17 as Memphis won its sixth in the last seven. The win, coupled with Sacramento’s loss to Utah, moved Memphis into sole possession of second place in the Western Conference, 3 1/2 behind first-place Denver.
Dallas built its lead to 16 points in the third quarter, but Memphis crafted a 24-7 run in the fourth, and the game settled into an exchange of leads for both teams until the Grizzlies pulled away. “I thought we were sloppy. We weren’t fully engaged,” Jenkins said of the early problems. “Our heads weren’t in the right place in the first three quarters, and you can see a (opponent’s) 16-point lead grow.”
The Houston Rockets on the other hand lost 108-121 against the Warriors in their last game. The Rockets used an 11-2 run, led by six points from Kevin Porter Jr., later in the fourth to get within seven with about two minutes to go. But Thompson made a 3-pointer to start a 5-0 run that made it 118-106 with a minute remaining.
The Western Conference-worst Rockets got 21 points and 12 rebounds from Tari Eason. Jalen Green added 20 on a night when they dropped their second in a row following a season-long three-game winning streak. Houston rookie Jabari Smith Jr. talked about why things got away from the Rockets in the fourth quarter.
“Just us being careless a little bit,” he said. “Fatigue set in a little bit from playing (Sunday) against that tough Pelicans team. We fought … but came up short.” A 3-pointer by Daishen Nix got the Rockets within three early in the fourth quarter before the Warriors scored the next eight points, with 3s from Curry and Anthony Lamb, to make it 98-87 with about nine minutes to go.
