Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons will welcome the Indiana Pacers to Little Caesars Arena for an NBA game on Saturday. The Detroit Pistons lost 103-113 in their last game over the Timberwolves. Cory Joseph scored 17 points and James Wiseman had 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Pistons. “It’s super tough to be playing from behind every night,” Wiseman said. “We need to find a way to come out with better energy to get over this hump.”

Detroit played without four of the five starters from its season-opening win over the Orlando Magic. Cade Cunningham (leg), Isaiah Stewart (shoulder) and Bojan Bogdanovic (Achilles) are injured, while Saddiq Bey was traded to the Atlanta Hawks. Rookie Jaden Ivey is the only player to start both games. “I thought our approach was disappointing tonight,” Pistons coach Dwane Casey said. “I don’t know if it is just all the games we’ve played in a short time, but I didn’t feel like we came out with the kind of energy we needed.”

The Hornets finished the first half with an 8-0 run and held a 59-50 lead. Charlotte used a 13-5 run at the start of the third quarter and increased the margin to 17 points. Joseph scored 14 points in the quarter, helping Detroit close within 93-83 heading to the fourth. But the Hornets extended their lead to as many as 18 points in the sloppy closing period.

Indiana Pacers

The Indiana Pacers on the other hand won 134-125 against the Rockets in their last game. Tyrese Haliburton had 28 points and a career-high 19 assists, Buddy Hield hit the go-ahead 3-pointer in overtime and the Indiana Pacers beat the Houston Rockets 134-125 on Thursday night. Hield broke a 117-all tie with his fifth 3-pointer and Haliburton scored 12 points after that as the Pacers outscored the Rockets 19-10 in overtime. “It ain’t pressure,” Haliburton said.

“It’s just basketball. It’s understanding guys expect me to make plays. That’s what I’m here for. … This is part of my maturation as an NBA player and as a point guard in this organization. I love that. I love that expectation for me.” Pacers coach Rick Carlisle spoke of his All-Star point guard’s growing affinity for making plays late.

“He took over the game in overtime,” Carlisle said. “He certainly has demonstrated that is what he’s about. And he loves those moments, very much the way (Hall of Famer) Reggie Miller loved those moments.” The Pacers have won seven consecutive games against the Rockets, who have the NBA’s second-worst record at 15-51.
