Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons will welcome the Denver Nuggets to Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse for an NBA game on Thursday. The Detroit Pistons lost 117-97 in their last game over the Wizards. The Pistons snapped an 11-game skid by beating Indiana on Monday, but they allowed the Wizards to shoot 68% in the first quarter — including 14 of 16 inside the arc — a night later. An 8-0 run put Washington up 16-7, and later in the quarter the Wizards went on a 20-2 tear to make it 38-16.

“I think the biggest thing is defensively, we were engaged, locked in,” Beal said. “I just make sure I try to set the tone on either end of the floor and get guys shots, get us going as best we can.” Kuzma missed the game because of right knee soreness. Beal went 13 of 15 from the field and finished one point shy of his season high. He also had seven assists and six rebounds.

“Just being aggressive,” Beal said. “I always credit my teammates for moving, setting screens and just being active. The ball was moving around. We were just playing for each other.” This game was a lot less tense for the Wizards than their previous matchup with Detroit. They won that one on the road last week, 119-117 on Daniel Gafford’s buzzer beater.

Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets on the other hand lost 125-110 against the Raptors in their last game. Denver guard Jamal Murray shot 5 for 18 and scored 14 points and Bruce Brown added 12, but the Nuggets lost the opener of a season-high, five-game road trip. Nikola Jokic scored 28 points, Michael Porter Jr. added 23 and Aaron Gordon had 18 for the Western Conference-leading Nuggets, who are winless since a March 6 home victory over the Raptors.

“Right now we’re just in chill mode, and you can’t be in chill mode with 13 games to go in the season,” Nuggets coach Michael Malone said. “We’ve got to try to find a way to get our swagger back.” Denver opponents have scored 100 or more points in five straight games, and 120 or more in each of the past three.

“Maybe we’ve gotten a little soft with success,” Malone said. “We’ve been on cruise control for so long, No. 1 in the West since like December 15. I just told our players we’ve gotten away from who we are.” The Raptors shot 20 for 28 in the first to lead 49-30 after one.
