NBA Report: Fred VanVleet wins it for Toronto against Washington Wizards

Washington's late flurry couldn't help them as Toronto defeat the Wizards on Fred VanVleet's clutch time three point jumper.

Toronto Raptors Win against Washington Wizards on Friday night, 109-105. The loss for Washington was similar to the loss they suffered in the hands of the Brooklyn Nets. The Raptors went on to lead in the last minute scoring five points in the last minute to seal the victory. 

Washington started with a bang as they gained a 5 point lead in the first three minutes of the game. Daniel Gafford scored six points, three rebounds and one steal in the first quarter as Washington went on to a double-digit lead as Washington ended the first quarter at 20-30. 

Rui Hachimura started the second quarter with a two-point jumper and scored a consecutive two-point jumper as Washington went on to lead further by 14 points. OG Anunoby scored 4 consecutive points to reduce the lead to 10 points.

Rookie Scottie Barnes erupted in the second quarter as he scored 10 points heading into halftime Toronto who was trailing by 10 points gained a one-point advantage with the score line at 54-54 at halftime.

Washington late fightback couldn’t stop Toronto  

Kentavious Caldwell Pope scored a 19- foot pullup jump shot to start the 3rd quarter as Washington headed into the lead early in the third quarter. Barnes and VanVleet scored from the paint and with 5:38 left on the clock in the third quarter at timeout the scores were tied at 71-71. Siakam scored a two-point jumper after the timeout and VanVleet added six more points to the tally. Barnes carried his momentum in the third quarter as Toronto gained a 14 point advantage at the end of the third quarter. The Score line is 91-77. 

Bradley Beal started the fightback for the wizards early in the fourth quarter as he scored 13 points in the fourth quarter and Montrezl Harrell scored four straight points to tie the game 102-102 with 1 minute left on the clock as Toronto called the timeout. Fred VanVleet scored a three-point jumper to take Toronto into the lead. 

Anunoby and Pascal Siakam scored two points each as Toronto headed into the seven-point lead and Harrell scored a three-point jumper to end the game. The late fightback from Washington couldn’t take them over the winning line. 

Scottie Barnes after his performance said, ” It was finding those easy spots where I could just get to the rim,”. 

Bradley Beal led the Wizards with 25 points. The wizards began the season 10-3 but are 13-20 since then. 

Freed VanVleet said “Bradley Beal is one of the toughest covers in the NBA”.
