Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid reportedly suffered a left mid-foot sprain and could be out for a few days. The 2022 scoring champion is expected to miss the team’s games against the Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Hornets. He will be re-evaluated in a few days, which means that there is no certainty of his definite return. Embiid was in stellar form, scoring over 100 points in a span of two days against the Atlanta Hawks and Utah Jazz. He then went on to register 32 points against the likes of the Milwaukee Bucks and Minnesota Timberwolves.

Along with him, the 76ers will also miss the services of James Harden and Tyrese Maxey. This leaves them severely short-handed against a Nets team, that recently welcomed Kyrie Irving into the lineup after an eight-game suspension. In his absence, the chances of the Philadelphia 76ers have further shortened.

Joel Embiid is currently averaging 32.3 PPG and 10.1 RPG. He has been dominant and has made things very difficult for his opponents. However, with him expected to miss out on a few games, coach Doc Rivers now has to hope for his bench to do the trick. Montrezl Harrell is one player that could potentially replace Joel Embiid in the starting lineup. Although he is a role player, the former sixth man of the year is fearless and could cause problems against the Brooklyn Nets.

With Ben Simmons expected to play against the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday, this game will undoubtedly be one to watch for the entire NBA community. The three-time All-Star unceremoniously forced his way out of the 76ers after the end of the 2020-21 season. Despite the team’s best efforts, they were unable to keep him and it was on the trade deadline that they sent him to Brooklyn in exchange for James Harden.

Since then Simmons has not taken the court for the Nets when they play against the 76ers due to a back injury. However, with him set to play on Tuesday, it will be interesting to see how the hostile fans in Philly are going to react to him taking the court.

How important is Joel Embiid for the Philadelphia 76ers?

Joel Embiid is easily one of the best centres in the modern-day NBA. His ability to work in the paint and score baskets with his magical footwork has helped him get appreciation from many. He has been close to winning the MVP trophy for two years now and many believe that this could be the year for Jojo. Playing alongside a point guard like James Harden certainly makes things a lot easier for Embiid. However, with the former MVP being ruled out, it was Embiid who carried the team in the last few games.

His injury would be a bit of a concern for the 76ers as they have some tough fixtures coming up. But Joel Embiid is one of the toughest players in the NBA. Last playoffs he proved that when he took the court despite suffering from an orbital fracture. He will be looking to get back as soon as possible. The 76ers are currently 8-8, but when they have their stars back, things could get a lot better for them.
