The Los Angeles Lakers recorded their first win of the NBA season when they defeated the Denver Nuggets 121-110 on Sunday. LeBron James was at the heart of everything they did good as he scored 26 points and dished out 8 assists and had 6 rebounds.
Anthony Davis had a great game and was back to his best after missing the last game with injury. Davis played for 37 minutes, more than any player on the team and dropped 23 points. He also had the most rebounds in the game with 15 as the Lakers dominated the paint and the glass.
Russell Westbrook, came off the bench and scored 18 points with 8 assists and 8 rebounds to help the Lakers and Darvin Ham record their first win of the season as they were the last winless team in the league.
The Denver Nuggets were at full strength as they had all their best players available with Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr all taking the court from the beginning. Jokic unsurprisingly top scored with 13 points and had 14 rebounds, one less than Anthony Davis.
Jamal Murray, who is coming back from a long term injury clocked up 32 minutes and dropped 21 points with 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Michael Porter Jr played only for 28 minutes and scored 17 points and also recorded 9 assists.
The late George Mikan, Lakers Hall of Famer was made immortal as the Lakers retired his jersey and put it in the rafters. The famous number 99 was retired in the presence of his family and Lakers players. Mikan is the 11th player to have his jersey retired by the Lakers with the others being Elgin Baylor, Kobe Bryant, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Gail Goodrich, Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Shaquille O’Neal, Jamaal Wilkes and James Worthy.
