The Minnesota Timberwolves were a team that had a stellar offseason. They onboarded the three-time defensive player of the year, Rudy Gobert. With his arrival, many believe that the T-Wolves are set to become contenders in the West. Last season, the franchise made their way to the playoffs for the first time since 2018. They are looking to build up on that and compete for the title going into the 2022-23 season.

The team have immense talent and looks like a significant threat to the other teams in the West. However, with all sides getting better this season, the Minnesota Timberwolves will have to stay locked in right from the very start. In today’s article, we take a look at five players who are going to play a major role in the upcoming season.

Karl – Anthony Towns

Karl – Anthony Towns had a stunning campaign last year. He averaged 23.2 PPG and 11.3 RPG in 74 appearances for the team. His brilliance was a big part in the team’s entry into the playoffs. KAT also made the All-NBA third team and won the three-point shooting contest last season. He will be looking to use those accolades as a motivation to bring in his best into the new season.

Rudy Gobert

Rudy Gobert is one of the best defensive players in the NBA. His resume is stacked and despite all the doubts surrounding his efficiency, the French national was a key reason behind the Utah Jazz’s consistency in reaching the playoffs. The Minnesota Timberwolves had a fiery offense, but they lacked the defensive stability against the bigger teams in the league. One of the reasons was Anthony Towns’ lack of defensive brilliance. However, with Gobert on the roster, the Minnesota Timberwolves do not need to worry about rim protection as he is an ace shot blocker. Teams have tried to get Gobert out of the paint, but the T-Wolves have great perimeter defenders. With all of that help available, Rudy Gobert will certainly thrive this season with the franchise.

Anthony Edwards

Anthony Edwards is one of the best young players in the NBA. Last season, he averaged 21.3 PPG and put up some real clinical performances. His ability to score in the paint and from beyond the arc helped the Timberwolves’ offense massively. There are no doubts about how good a scorer he is, but the young sensation has locked in on becoming a better defender this season. During media day press conferences, he said that he would be “salty” if he didn’t make the All-Defensive team. For a player who has never been known for his defense, those are high aspirations. But Edwards is one player that will work hard to achieve what he has his eye set on. If he is able to make a significant impact on both ends, the Minnesota Timberwolves will be a tough side to beat during the 2022-23 season.

D’Angelo Russell

D’Angelo Russell is going to be a big player for the Minnesota Timberwolves going into the new season. As a point guard, he has wonderful ball-handling skills. Russell is also a brilliant scorer, but his role is going to be a lot different for the T-Wolves this season. Playing alongside two bigs, the former second-overall pick can wreak havoc on defenses with pick-and-roll action. He has been great for the team so far, but with the team getting better, D-LO will have to elevate his game to the next level.

Jaden McDaniels

Jaden McDaniels had a stunning campaign with the Minnesota Timberwolves last season. Playing in his sophomore year, the young forward came in with tons of energy on both ends of the floor. He locked up some of the best offensive players in the league and at times went on scoring sprees for the T-Wolves during games. The franchise will be looking to get a lot more of that from McDaniels during the 2022-23 season. Although they are stacked, the Minnesota Timberwolves will need players like McDaniels to be at their best as a championship can only be won with team effort.
