The Phoenix Suns defeated the Orlando Magic 116-113 on Thursday night to snap a three-game losing run. The Suns held off a late second-half charge by the Magic, who rallied from a 12-point deficit. A spectacular stop by Suns wing Josh Okogie on Magic rookie forward Paolo Banchero’s game-tying 3-point attempt, though, ended Orlando’s chances of forcing extra. Suns coach Monty Williams was also glad that the Suns were able to escape with a win after a difficult series of games.

Following the game, Williams noted how significant the victory was for his team: “In the fourth, our offense kind of got away from us a bit, but we were able to make enough plays,” Williams said.

Williams said that the squad will need a day off to unwind following the tense finish: “It’s been an emotional week for the guys, with travel, playing in some close games, like all week. You could just feel it on the guys. I think they need a day to just fill their cup a little bit, so we can get back to playing solid, and being able to maintain that offensive and defensive production,” Williams said.

On Thursday, Phoenix had five players with 15 or more points, headed by standout shooting guard Devin Booker. Booker had 19 points, five rebounds, and two assists on 41.2% shooting.

The Magic, on the other hand, saw five players finish with 16 or more points. Markelle Fultz led the way for Orlando, finishing with a game-high 25 points, seven rebounds, nine assists, and two steals on 64.7% shooting.

With the victory, Phoenix (38-32) maintains sole possession of the Western Conference’s fourth spot. Orlando (28-42, 13th in the East) has dropped two of its past three games and five of its last six.
