By defeating the Memphis Grizzlies 122-112 at the FedEx Forum on Wednesday night, the Blazers achieved what is perhaps their biggest victory in months. With four wins in a row, the Blazers (25-26) have officially surpassed.500 and are one game away.

Just over three minutes remained in the game when the Blazers went on a run that saw them take a 106-105 lead on a dunk by Drew Eubanks off a pass from Damian Lillard. The Blazers were down just 90-84 at the start of the fourth quarter.

After that, the score was back and forth until the Blazers embarked on an 8-0 run with 59 seconds left to take the lead, 117-109. Lillard had 42 points and 10 assists to lead the Blazers. He made 11 of 22 field goal attempts and 15 of 16 free throw attempts.

Adding 26 points was Anfernee Simons. Jusuf Nurkic, who departed the game early due to a calf injury, was replaced by Eubanks, who finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Ja Morant led the Grizzlies with 32 points and 12 assists.

Twitter reacts as Trailblazers upsets Grizzlies

Thanks in part to the Blazers’ 13 turnovers being turned into 28 points, Memphis led for most of the game. But only 24.3% of the Grizzlies’ three-point attempts were made. The Blazers were able to overcome an early 12-point disadvantage because of their poor shooting, and they managed to stay in the game until they made a late run to take control.

Quick Danny Green update

After 10 minutes of play, there isn’t much of an update to provide. He did, though, briefly, display the value he might provide off the bench. The fact that he finished with 4 rebounds showed that he was not scared to crash the glass. He made one of his four threes, but two of them were airballs, which is to be anticipated from a man who has lost eight months of play due to a significant knee injury (must get his legs under him!) for a good return game. Let’s examine his appearance after having additional rust removed.

Lillard vs Morant

Ja Morant and Damian Lillard put on a show in the third quarter as the Grizzlies guard had 16 points at the half and the Blazers guard had 17 points. They were exchanging baskets back and forth while utilizing various dribble combinations. The Grizzlies did play well to open the second half, but Lillard scored twice in the third quarter to give his team a 7-point lead.

The Grizzlies were defeated by the outstanding shooting of Damian Lillard and Anfernee Simons, who combined for a 38-point quarter. Grizzlies’ offence struggled, scoring just 22 points. Early in the quarter, Jaren Jackson Jr. settled into a rhythm, but he wasn’t given enough opportunities to score. Drew Eubanks’ “Statue of Liberty” slam and subsequent foul eliminated Memphis out of the picture as the cherry on top for Portland. 122-112 was the Grizzlies’ sixth defeat in the previous seven games.
