Boston Celtics vs Philadelphia 76ers: Twitter hails Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown as both score 35 points each to down 76ers in season opener

Tatum and Brown became the first pair of teammates to score 35 points each in a season opener since Wilt Chamberlain and Jerry West did it for the Los Angeles Lakers in 1969.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen starred for the Boston Celtics as they defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 126-117 in the NBA season opener on Tuesday. Tatum and Brown both scored 35 points with the former also adding another 12 rebounds on the night when the Celtics honored the life and legacy of the legendary Bill Russell.

Celtics new boy Malcolm Brogdon dropped 16 points on his Celtics league debut and dished out four assists in what was a decent performance. Grant Williams and Marcus Smart added 15 and 14 points respectively.

Tatum and Brown became the first pair of teammates to score 35 points each in a season opener since Wilt Chamberlain and Jerry West did it for the Los Angeles Lakers in 1969. After the game, Jayson Tatum said, “This is the best I’ve felt coming into a season in the last 2-3 years.”

Brown feels he can do a lot better for the Boston Celtics

Jaylen Brown was more reserved in his assessment and said that he could have done a lot better despite having such a good game. Brown said, “I feel like I can play a lot better. It felt good to get a win on the first night. It feels great, so let’s get back tomorrow.”

The Celtics scored 44 points inside the paint in this game and on that Brown said, “We got to get to the paint, got to be aggressive. It stops, we rebound and we are going to be alright. We started off the game a little slow but we picked it up and found a way to win.”

For the 76ers, James Harden looked like he was back to his best as he scored 35 points with 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Joel Embiid dropped 26 points and recorded 15 rebounds while Tyrese Maxey scored 21 points of his own.
