Sebastian Vettel did not have a memorable race at the British Grand Prix 2021. The Aston Martin driver went wheel to wheel with old rival Fernando Alonso at one point. However, the Alpine driver and Vettel went wheel to wheel and ended up making contact. Alonso was unharmed but Vettel’s car quite clearly had issues. He dropped down the order at a steady pace and was 18th at one point. To make things worse, he would have to retire the car towards the end of the race with a cooling issue.

However, rather than head back to the hotel, he went out after the race and helped clean up the garbage left behind by fans.

“I think it is important that we all respect the environment and don’t rely on other people to clear up after us,” he said.

“We have to start somewhere and each one of us can make a difference now.”

The gesture was widely praised by social media users.

However, Vettel also added he was disappointed to have not finished the race. The four-time world champion believes he would have finished in the points given the pace they showed.

“The weekend was looking promising and, without all the problems, I should have finished well inside the points,” he said.

“I am very disappointed to lose the car in a wheel-to-wheel battle with Fernando (Alonso). I am not sure exactly what happened, but I misjudged it, lost grip, and spun.

“After that, I was right at the back. In the end we did not finish the race because the team retired the car with a cooling issue.”
