The Euro 2020 final between England and Italy at Wembley on July 11 saw fans witness an exciting final. However, it is the post match ugly behaviour from English fans that have since dominated headlines. First, there were incidents of racist abuse of Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford. Then, a mural made for Rashford in Manchester was vandalised with hate messages. Afterwards, videos surfaced showing England fans beating up Italian fans. Now, it turns out Formula 1 star Lando Norris – who attended the final – was mugged afterwards.

The McLaren driver was robbed of a limited edition watch, which costs up to 40,000 pounds. Retail costs of the watch are about as high as 100,000 dollars.

The incident took place as Norris was approaching his McLaren sports car after the match. Thankfully, the driver was unharmed but was deeply affected by the incident.

In a statement relesed by his team McLaren, they stated the driver is ‘understandably shaken’ and that they cannot comment further on the matter.

“Thankfully, Lando was unharmed but he is understandably shaken,” the statement said. “The team is supporting Lando and we are sure that racing fans will join us in wishing him all the best for the British Grand Prix this weekend.

“As this is now a police matter we cannot comment further.”

How has Lando Norris fared this F1 season?

Norris has been one of the standout drivers of the 2021 season thus far. The young British driver currently sits fourth in the driver’s standings behind Red Bull’s Sergio Perez.

He has also finished on the podium thrice this season. In fact, during Austrian GP when he claimed his last podium finish, he was praised by none other than Lewis Hamilton.

The two were involved in a duel for second and third place in the early parts of the race. When Hamilton finally passed him, he made it a point to compliment the driver on team radio.

“Such a good driver, Lando,” were his exact words as he made the pass.

The sport next moves to the iconic Silverstone circuit in England, which will feature a full-capacity crowd.
