When the Aston Martin F1 team made a return to the sport of Formula 1, it also brought back the traditional green colour. However, one of the biggest complaints over the colour has been how dull it looks on television. It’s a stark contrast to the pink and white livery used by the former Racing Point, which was easily distinguishable on TV. However, the team bosses seemingly have a solution to this – make the car even more green. Yes, that is what team principal Otmar Szafnauer said the team will be doing. The idea is to make it ‘pop a little more on television’.

“I think the green colour suits us, that’s for sure,” said Szafnauer, speaking over the Austrian Grand Prix weekend.

“I think it’s a stunning colour in the sun and when you’re looking at it in person. But I believe we should be looking at making it pop a little more on television, without losing the green when you’re looking at its outside.

“I don’t know if we can do that. But that’s one thing that we’re looking to do, just to make sure that it differentiates itself on TV from some of the other darker cars.”

Szafnauer also dismissed any notion of returning to the old pink and white. Those were the colours of team sponsors BWT but with the re-entry of Aston Martin, the focus is on staying green.

“With a name like Aston Martin and Aston being green traditionally – and we’re growing the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula 1 Team – I would think it will stay green.

“Ferrari is red. Aston will be green.”

How have Aston Martin fared this season?

Aston Martin have had a mixed start to life back in F1. Last year the team finished fourth in the constructor’s standings, losing out in the final race to McLaren for the third spot.

However, this year the team has struggled. The new regulations have been tough on cars that feature a low rake design, like Aston Martin and even their engine suppliers and constructor’s and world champions Mercedes.

The drivers have been in and out of the points, which is disappointing given they signed Sebastian Vettel from Ferrari. It will be interesting to see how they fare in the second half of the season.
