Detroit Tigers

The Detroit Tigers will welcome the Cleveland Guardians to Comerica Park for an MLB game on Tuesday. The Detroit Tigers won 7-6 in their last game over the Giants. Nick Maton hit a three-run homer in the 11th inning to give the Detroit Tigers a 7-5 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Friday night. Lamonte Wade Jr. gave the Giants a 5-4 lead in the top of the inning with an RBI single, and Camilo Doval (0-2) struck out two batters with runners on second and third in the bottom of the inning.

Maton, though, hit a 3-0 pitch into the right-field stands for his first career game-ending home run. “I knew I was going to get a fastball — something good to hit — and I was waiting for it,” he said. José Cisnero (1-0) worked an inning for the victory. Javier Baez, who was pulled from Detroit’s 3-1 win in Toronto for a pair of baserunning mistakes and entered the game hitting .122, singled, doubled and walked twice.

The Tigers led 4-1 in the eighth, but J.D. Davis tied it with a three-run homer. “The range of emotion in that game covered them all,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said. “We knew we had an opportunity in the 11th inning if we could just get to our lefties. (Doval) is a really good closer, but when Maton gets into a hitters count, you aren’t taking the bat away from him.”

Cleveland Guardians

The Cleveland Guardians on the other hand lost 7-6 against the Nationals in their last game. Cleveland scored four runs in the third against Washington starter Patrick Corbin, starting with consecutive doubles and then Myles Straw reaching on an Abrams error. Kwan followed with an RBI single, and Straw came around when catcher Keibert Ruiz’s attempt to pick him off third got past Candelario. Former National Josh Bell’s two-out RBI double scored Kwan. Corbin allowed four runs, two of them earned, in six innings.

The Guardians extended their lead to 6-3 in the seventh with two runs off Hobie Harris. García’s two-run blast off Tim Herrin in the bottom of the inning got Washington back within one. It was the first time in five games the Nationals scored after the fourth inning.

“We jump out and get the lead, we’ve got to tack on some runs late in games,” Martinez said. “They did that today.”

Washington opened the scoring in the first inning on Candelario’s RBI single. Thomas added an two-out RBI double in the second, and Candelario led off the third with his third homer, a drive just inside the right-field foul pole that was part of a four-hit day. Cleveland starter Shane Bieber allowed three runs and struck out four in six innings.
