New York Yankees vs Minnesota Twins will take place at Yankee Stadium in another round of MLB action. Aaron Judge seems to be on track for a season with 60 home runs. In the event that he succeeds, he will join one of baseball’s most exclusive and prestigious clubs. In 1927, Babe Ruth did it. Roger Maris did it in 1961. Then, between 1998 and 2001, over the course of four seasons, Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, and Sammy Sosa, they accomplished it six times. In total, that is eight times. That makes nine if Judge arrives, which it seems he will. In the entire history of writing, that is it. Six players nine times. Unlike Ruth, Judge is not participating in a pre-integrated competition. In contrast to Maris, McGwire, and Sosa, he is not participating in an expansion year. Additionally, the offensive climate now bears little resemblance to the high-flying — and contentious, to put it nicely — times around the start of the 21st century, when home run records were routinely broken.

Since 2001, 1961, or 1927, the baseball world has undergone a significant shift. For a variety of reasons, almost everything has changed to make hitting harder, with the majority relating to velocity, pitch movement, and the seemingly infinite supply of high-octane arms that don’t bother about pacing themselves to last throughout games. The strikeout percentage is increasing mostly because of this; the next time a batter from a half-century ago gripes about today’s batters, remember that their job is much harder than his was. Of all, there is no such thing as an “easy” 60-homer season. We began to question, though, how much harder it may be for Judge to accomplish it today than it was for them to do it back then given that knowledge and the fact that he now has 55 in a season where nobody else has even reached 40.
