Yordan Alvarez reached base five times, Yuli Gurriel also homered and Alex Bregman had three hits as the Astros beat the Mets for the third time in a week.
The Houston Astros destroyed the New York Mets 9-1 in the MLB on Tuesday night in what was a totally dominating performance. Yordan Alvarez reached base five times, Yuli Gurriel also homered and Alex Bregman had three hits as the Astros beat the Mets for the third time in a week. Astros manager Dusty Baker said after the game, “We scored early and we kept scoring. That’s the thing we got to do. You know, we’re playing high-quality teams. I mean, these guys can score, just like the Yankees can score, and just like we can score.”

Framber Valdez was the star of the show. He allowed six hits over eight scoreless innings, striking out four and inducing a dozen groundball outs. Valdez, who has one of the best curveballs did not use it as much as he dominated the Mets mostly with his sinker. After the game, he said, “I think we can all agree I have a pretty good curveball. I feel comfortable throwing my curveball, but I tried to not throw it in counts where they might be expecting it.”

The Mets have had an awfully difficult time with what is statistically a mediocre Astros offense in these three games.

Two things that strike you from the past week:
1) Right now the #Mets aren’t in the Astros’ weight class.
2) Right now the #Mets aren’t in the #Yankees’ weight class.

If Mets have any interest in actually competing for a championship this season, they’re going to have to fix their black hole at DH, the bullpen, and add more starting pitching depth
The three games against the Astros are an aberration, but those three areas need serious help

I’m glad that tomorrow afternoon is the last time the Mets face the Houston Astros this season.

Last time I was in the Mets clubhouse, the Astros had just popped champagne to celebrate Jose Altuve’s batting title.

The Astros won 9-1. They are 46-27.
The Astros are guaranteed a winning record during their nine-game swing against the Mets and Yankees.

These Mets/Astros games are doing a good job at showing the gap between tier one and tier two teams

The Yankee and Mets have the two best records in baseball
The Astros have played them 7 times
They haven’t trailed for one second
