Kylian Mbappe continues to wreak havoc both domestically and internationally, reminding the world of his scoring prowess time and again. On Tuesday, the Frenchman was once again the star of the night, scoring twice for his national team against South Africa in a 5-0 friendly win. Mbappe majestically curled the ball into the top corner for the opener before slotting a penalty to help France extend their winning run to seven matches. Not only for the country, but Mbappe has been equally impressive for his club, Paris Saint-Germain, this season. He has been in red-hot form for the French giants both domestically and in Europe. Even though PSG got knocked out in the round-of-16 Champions League clash against Real Madrid, Mbappe was the only bright spark in both legs for the Ligue 1 club.

How has Kylian Mbappe fared for PSG this season?

The centre-forward has been in excellent form for the current Ligue 1 leaders in all competitions. Mbappe has a total of 26 goals and 17 assists in 37 matches for PSG till now this campaign. If the numbers are broken down further then he will have 15 in the league, six in the Champions League and five in the domestic cup (Coupe de France).

PSG are sitting comfortably at the top of the table, with a 12-point lead over second-placed Marseille. Their main concern, however, is not the league, but the Champions League, from which they were eliminated in the last-16 contest against Real Madrid. The French giants’ aim for a number of seasons has been to lift the coveted European trophy.

In 2020, they reached the final but were beaten by German giants Bayern Munich. Last season, PSG fell in the semifinal stage to Manchester City. This year they were in a comfortable 2-0 aggregate lead over La Liga leaders Real Madrid. But a second-half collapse at Santiago Bernabeu saw them lose the tie.

Both goals were scored by Kylian Mbappe in the last-16 round. He scored the late winner in Paris before opening the scoring in the Spanish capital. However, his teammates were not able to live up to the same level, resulting in PSG’s early elimination. They were also knocked out of the French Cup by Nice.

Where will Kylian Mbappe go next?

Mbappe has been long rumoured to join the Spanish leaders Real Madrid next season. With the Frenchman’s contract set to expire this summer, any possible suitor will only have to pay his hefty wage. One of the teams linked with a move for Mbappe has already dropped out of the race.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta told Catalan radio station RAC1, “Haaland or Mbappe to Barca? The conditions I’ve been told about these two deals, we’d never accept to spend those figures, no way. I see both of them really far from Barca.”

This makes Real Madrid in the driving seat to secure Mbappe’s transfer. There is also rumour that prolific Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland might join the Frenchman at Real Madrid. This could once again make the Spanish giants a force to be reckoned with.

There are reports that Real Madrid are looking to offload attacking players such as Rodrygo and Marco Asensio to make room for one or both of Europe’s most sought-after players. Anything can happen from now till the end of the season, but it is unlikely that Mbappe will stay in Paris next season.
