Paris Saint-Germain suffered a major blow as their prolific forward Kylian Mbappe picked up an injury during a training session on Monday. His participation for the record French league champions for the return leg of the Round of 16 contest against Real Madrid remains in doubt. Mbappe sustained a knock to his left foot in training, following a heavy challenge from teammate Idrissa Gueye. This comes after the Frenchman had already missed PSG’s 1-0 loss to Nice at the weekend.

The club has already taken necessary medical actions for Mbappe’s treatment and will deliver another update on the seriousness of his injury in the next 24 hours.

“Kylian Mbappé received a knock on his right foot in training today. He has undergone treatment this afternoon,” the club said in a statement.

“The medical tests are reassuring and another update will be made in 24h”.

Incidentally, it was Mbappe’s injury-time winner that helped PSG secure a 1-0 win over three-peat champions Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League fixture. In his possible absence from the second leg on Thursday, the French giants will have their task cut out, to eliminate Carlo Ancelotti’s side ahead of the quarter-finals.

Mbappe suffered a similar blow in the previous season of the Champions League as he picked up a calf injury and was forced to watch from the sidelines as PSG were eliminated by Manchester City in their semi-final second leg.

PSG provides update on Sergio Ramos and Ander Herrera situation

Former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, who joined the French club on free transfer, has struggled with calf injury throughout the season and also missed out on their last league encounter against Nice. There are already rumours that the veteran could see his way out of the club only after spending one season in France.

The club has provided an update on his recovery, which suggests that his return to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu for the Champions League Round of 16 second leg looks unlikely, while also mentioning that premier midfielder Ander Herrera will miss the clash. “Sergio Ramos will train on his own until the end of the week,” the statement said.

“Ander Herrera is training on his own and carries on his treatment for conjunctivitis. He will resume training with the squad at the end of the week.”

Real Madrid will, meanwhile, be without the services of Ferland Mendy and Casemiro due to suspension while Toni Kroos is sidelined due to injury
