We all want to play with great players: Luka Modric on Kylian Mbappe

Luka Modric has admitted that he would love to play alongside Kylian Mbappe at Real Madrid ahead of Wednesday’s crucial Champions League match against PSG. Madrid trailed PSG 1-0 in the first leg in Paris, when Mbappe scored a stunning late winner to give the French side a 1-0 lead in their quest to reach the quarter-finals. Mbappe’s participation at the Santiago Bernabeu is in doubt after he reportedly injured himself in training on Monday, with PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino expected to provide an update on his fitness later on Tuesday.

Carlo Ancelotti stated that his team was preparing as if Mbappe would play. The 23-year-contract old’s with PSG expires in the summer, and he is widely expected to join Real Madrid rather than sign an extension.

“We all want to play with great players and obviously Kylian is one of those,” said Modric in a press conference on Tuesday.

“Of course, I would like to play with him in my team but let’s see what happens. He plays for Paris. For us it’s very difficult to talk about players who aren’t here, other teams get angry, can interpret it badly, but of course, I don’t think there is a player that exists that doesn’t want to play with him on their team.”

Mbappe will get good reception: Ancelotti

Real are all set to play PSG in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16. Ancelotti predicted Mbappe would receive a warm reception from the Madrid fans at the Santiago Bernabeu. “The history of the Bernabeu says that good players have always received applause,” he said.

“We’re going to prepare for the match like Mbappe is going to play,” the Real Madrid manager added.

Real Madrid have their own issues, with Casemiro suspended and Toni Kroos still recovering from a hamstring injury. “If I think he is at 100 percent he will play,” Ancelotti said regarding Toni Kroos. “If he is at 95 percent, he won’t.”
