The January transfer window is now open, meaning there is a chance for football players to seek a fresh start. And, if multiple news reports are to believed, there will be plenty of movement for La Liga players.

The reasons for this are manifold; some are moving due to a lack of playing time, others because the club no longer wants them around.

Whatever the reason, there are a number of players keen to find new homes in January – even if on a temporary/loan basis.

And it is these players we are choosing to look at here. Below are the latest transfer rumours surrounding players in La Liga.

La Liga transfer rumours

  • Kieran Trippier is set for a move back to England – this time with Newcastle United. The English right-back has been a key part of Atletico Madrid since his transfer in 2019. However, the 31-year-old is keen to move back home. He was linked to Manchester United in the summer but looks set to join Newcastle.
  • Barcelona may have signed Ferran Torres from Manchester City, but registering him will be another headache altogether. Such is their financial plight that they need to move on players in order to register Torres. And this is where rumours for Luuk de Jong and Yusuf Demir come in; the Catalan club are keen to shift both these players so as to make room for Torres, financially speaking.
  • Barcelona could also offload high-earner Philippe Coutinho, with the Brazilian once again being linked with a Premier League move. The Brazilian has struggled during his time at Camp Nou and offloading his wages would be a massive bonus for the club.
  • Another top name reportedly available is Antoine Griezmann. He rejoined Atletico on loan this summer but is still technically a Barcelona player. And the club would be keen to get the Frenchman off their books too.
  • Sevilla have had a loan move for Anthony Martial rejected. The French striker has made clear his desire to leave Manchester United; interim manager Ralf Rangnick has confirmed as much. However, he has also said that no departure will be sanctioned that doesn’t suit the club.
  • Meanwhile, Real Madrid are targetting both Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe – but only in the summer transfer window. Mbappe is available on a free, his contract with PSG expiring at the end of the season. Haaland will be available for a cut price due to a release clause set to kick in in the summer.
