In an unfortunate incident, Royal Challenger Bangalore (RCB) pacer Harshal Patel’s sister passed away on Saturday while he was taking part in the IPL 2022 clash against Mumbai Indians, according to multiple media reports.

The premier India fast bowler left the IPL bio-bubble to attend his family after knowing about the unfortunate incident. He had picked up two wickets in RCB’s seven-wicket victory over the five-time champions on Saturday.

“Unfortunately, Harshal had to leave the bio-bubble due to a death in his family. It was his sister. He did not take the team bus back to Mumbai from Pune,” said an IPL source.

“He will be rejoining the bubble before the next game against CSK on April 12.”

IPL 2022: Harshal Patel was the purple cap holder last season

The Sanand-native had a breakthrough season in IPL 2021 as he finished with 32 wickets, the joint-most in an IPL season with Dwayne Bravo. He earned plaudits from close circuits due to his ability to bowl in the death overs with his dipping yorker and several slower variations.

The performance in the previous edition of the lucrative tournament also helped him impress the national selectors and find a place in the T20 squad for India for the series against New Zealand in November 2020.

Patel, who was released by RCB ahead of IPL 2022, was bought by them again at the mega auction for a mind-boggling INR 10.75 crore (USD 1.4 million) which is 53.75 times his previous IPL salary.

The impressive pacer has picked up six wickets from four matches in IPL 2022.
